Day-42 Class 3-5 We Love Reading: తెలుగు కథ : కొంగ-ఎండ్రకాయ
ఒక చెరువులో చాలా చేపలున్నాయి. ఒక ముసలి కొంగ ఆ చేపలను ఎలాగైనా చంపి
తినాలనుకొంది. ఆ కొంగకి చేపలు దొరికేవికాదు. కొంగ ఒక ఆలోచన చేసింది. కొంగ తపస్సు చేస్తున్నట్లుగా నటించసాగింది. చేపలు దగ్గరకు వచ్చినా ముట్టుకోలేదు.
ఆ చెరువులో నివసిస్తున్న ఒక ఎండ్రకాయ దీనిని గమనించి, కొంగను చూచి "కొంగబావా! నీదగ్గరకి వచ్చిన చేపలనైనా తినలేదేమి? అని అడిగింది. జీవహింస మహాపాపమని పెద్దలు చెప్పగా విన్నాను. ఇంతకాలం తెలియక ఎన్నో చేపలను తిన్న పాపం పోవాలని తపస్సు చేయుచున్నాను అంది కొంగ. మాంసాహారం పూర్తిగా మానేశాను. ఆకులు, అలుములు తిని నీరు తాగి కాలం గడుపుతున్నాను అని చెప్పింది.
కొంగ మాటలను ఎండ్రకాయ, చేపలు నమ్మాయి. ఆనాటి నుండి అవి నిర్భయంగా కొంగ చుట్టూ తిరిగేవి. కొంగ వాటికెన్నో కబుర్లు, కథలుచెప్పసాగింది. ఇలా కొన్నాళ్ళు గడిచాయి.
ఒకనాడు కొంగ, చేపలతో "మీకు కష్టకాలం రానున్నది. నిన్న జాలరులు చెరువుని చూచి చెరువులో నీరు తగ్గింది, నాలుగు రోజుల తర్వాత వచ్చి చేపలను పట్టుకుందామని చెప్పుతుంటే విన్నాను.
నాకేముంది, ఎక్కడికైనా క్షణంలో ఎగిరిపోగలను. ఇక్కడికి సమీపంలో ఆ కొండ అవతల ఒక పెద్ద సరస్సు ఉంది. అక్కడకు మిమ్ములను నా నోట కరుచుకొని పైకెగిరి వేగంగా వెళ్లి ఆ సరస్సులో దింపి వస్తాను. అంతకంటే నేను చేయగల సహాయం ఏదీ లేదు, తర్వాత మీ ఇష్టం" అని చెప్పింది. చేపలు దాని మాటలు నమ్మాయి.
తమనెలాగైనా కాపాడమన్నాయి. నాటి నుండి కొంగ తడవకు నాలుగైదు చేపలను ముక్కున కరచుకొని కొండవైపుగా వెళ్లి అక్కడొక పెద్ద బండమీద వాటిని పెట్టి తినసాగింది. తమ స్నేహితులందరూ క్షేమంగానే ఉన్నారని కొంగ చేపలకు చెపుతూ ఉండేది.
ఒకనాడు చేపలతో పాటు ఎండ్రకాయ కూడా తననూ సరస్సులో చేర్చమని కోరింది. కొంగ సంతోషంగా సరే అని చేపలను ముక్కున కరుచుకొంటాను. నీవు గట్టిగా నా మెడ పట్టుకో అంది. ఎండ్రకాయ దాని మెడ గట్టిగా పట్టుకుంది.
కొంగ పైకెగిరి తాను చేపలను తినే బండ దగ్గరకు వచ్చి వాలింది. ఎండ్రకాయకు అనుమానం వచ్చింది. అటూ ఇటూ చూసింది. అక్కడ ఎలాంటి చెరువుగాని, సరస్సుగాని కనపడలేదు. పైగా కొండ వద్ద బండ మీద చేపల పొలుసులు, వాటి ఎముకలు దానికి కనిపించాయి.
ఇన్నాళ్ళూ కొంగ చేసిన మోసం దానికి అర్థం అయింది. ఎండ్రకాయ కొంగ గొంతు పట్టి కొరికి చంపింది. కొంగ పీడ వదిలించుకొని నెమ్మదిగా చెరువు వద్దకు చేరి బతికి బయట పడింది.

The oldest crab in the pond, surprised, went up to him to inquire, "Why are you so unhappy?" The smart stork said, "I'll shortly leave this particular pond as it is going to be dried up by some people. " I will fly away to a larger pond. Listening to this the fish and crabs in the pond went up to him to request, "Please save us too!"
The stork agreed. He took a couple of fish in his beak and flew away. A little distance away, he sat on a big rock and ate the fish. He then made many trips to the pond and ate lots of fish.
One day the oldest crab came up to the stork and asked him to save him as well.
The stork picked him up and began traveling to the huge stone. The crab looked down from the sky searching for the lake. There was clearly no sign of water anywhere. All he noticed were fish bones spread all around.
The crab immediately clasped the stork's throat tight with his claws. The stork fell into to the ground. The crab crawled back to his pond to tell the story to his friends.
